PICTURES FOR THE DEMONSTRATION OF LESSONS

 Introduction

The demonstration method is based on the principle of "learning by doing". The clinical teaching of procedure in hospital is based on demonstration. The lesson demonstration strategy is a traditional classroom method, which is used in technical school and training college. The demonstration steps, gives students the opportunity to see and hear the details related to the skill being taught.

Demonstration is a method of teaching by exhibition and explanation or experiments.

Demonstration is method of presentation of skill which shows how a particular procedure is performed.

Purpose of demonstration

1. To acquire knowledge and skill

2. To develop attitude

3. To retain and able to use the achieved skill.

4. To demonstrate experiments or procedure.

5. To introduce a new procedure.

Technique of demonstration

The demonstration involve three steps as follows:

1. Planning

The instructor prepares their self for:

i. Article or picture and steps of demonstration.

ii. conductive learning environment.

iii. Objective based pictures based on the need of the students.

iv. Rehearsals to attain proficiency in doing procedure.

v. Learning environment such as facility to observe demonstration and to do demonstrations.

2. Performing

Performance technique means performance of the demonstration by teacher. During performing of implementing the demonstration teacher should use positive approach and should exhibit a co-ordination of head, heart and hand.

The teacher should proceed from whole to parts, by briefly explaining the whole procedure, then to individual steps.

The teacher should explain the name, use, importance and purpose of picture.

For example: While teaching biology, teacher can use picture of the cell, DNA, RNA, bacteria, cell division for demonstration.

For lower classes or pre-primary classes. The number system can be teach with help of pictures.

 Use of agricultural equipment can be demonstrate through their picture. 

3. Evaluation

The teacher should adapt evaluation technique to ensure that student have learned the skill appropriately. This is done by taking return demonstration and comparing the steps and procedure with the planned set criteria of procedure.

For example, the teacher can show some picture and ask students about the name and use of picture.
